This video shows all of lower Sidewinder Canyon, and 6 of its slot canyons, the way it was on 3-19-2018. The hike starts at the Sidewinder Canyon parking lot, which is 12.5 miles north of the Ashford Mill ruins, on Badwater Road. There are other trails leaving from this parking lot so don't just follow other hikers assuming they are going up Sidewinder Canyon. From the parking lot leave in a southwesterly direction towards a long flat shelf of rubble with what looks like a large pile of gravel to it's right. It's about 1/4 mile to the mouth of Sidewinder which is a wide trench with 50 foot tall cliffs that rise straight up from the gravel wash. The first slot is on the left 3/4 of a mile from the parking area and the other five are on the right spread over the next 3/4 of a mile. Some slots require climbing over or under rocks to get into or to navigate through them and a light may be helpful. To hike the six slots that we did, and the rest of the lower canyon, it was 8.6 miles long with an elevation gain of 2450 feet, which took us over 6 hours to complete. You could do a much shorter version of this hike that would only be a few miles long with less elevation gain.
