Danses de travers: Encore Patrick Cohen 55:24 Satie: Rêverie du pauvre Pascal Rogé Erik Satie (1866–1925) was a French composer and pianist. He entered the Paris Conservatory under the pressure of his stepmother, but his free-spirited and sensitive personality made it hard for him to adapt to the school. He was often absent and became a lazy student, eventually quitting the conservatory. Satie believed that music is not only something to be intensely focused on during concerts. He thought music could also serve as background sound that gently fills the space, like a chair or wallpaper. 🛋 Always present but almost unnoticed—Satie aimed for music that feels like furniture. He asked the question, “Does music have to be the main star?” As a result, he created music that naturally functions as background in everyday life. This approach made him a pioneer of modern minimalism. Satie’s music softly shapes the atmosphere of a space, featuring the quality of being “heard but not consciously noticed.” It is built with minimal structure, repetitive patterns, and simple harmonies. His scores often include humorous and quirky instructions such as: “Careful, fingers might get cut,” “Play with wide-open eyes 👀,” “Very softly, like a mouse 🐭,” “I want to be a great watchmaker 🕰️,” “Play as if slightly drunk 🍷.” 🪑 His representative works include the piano pieces Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes, which greatly influenced later minimalism and ambient music. 💡 The image used is a section from a self-portrait drawn by Satie himself, titled “Monsieur Sadi dans sa maison, il songe” (“Mr. Sadi in his house, deep in thought”). 🐈⬛🐾 💡 TMI: Erik Satie was well-known for his obsessively structured daily routines and eccentric habits. For example, he always carried a hammer “just in case,” and famously insisted on eating only white foods. His diet reportedly included sugar, coconut, rice, turnips, chicken cooked in white water, white cheese, and white fish. He also once ordered twelve identical grey suits and wore each one until it was worn out before moving on to the next. However, he passed away before he could wear six of them. 👔🔨 *Image: Monsieur Sadi dans sa maison, il songe *TRACK DETAILS youtube: • 사티의 미니멀리즘 apple music: https://music.apple.com/kr/playlist/%...
