Some corrections for the first demo song at the end of the video: I believe Jim and I recorded this a bit later than I originally stated. My friend Jim was working at a music store sometime around 1991 and someone (I don't remember the details) dropped off promotional items for a contest called "The Energizer Rock-N-Roll Challenge", sponsored by Energizer batteries (I think). Each "packet" came with a promotional tape with two songs from a band called Another Carnival and some instructions. The challenge was to record the two songs from the tape in your own style and submit it to the contest. Grand prize was cash (don't remember how much) and a recording session (I don't remember where). Jim and I were both single, bored and in our early twenties at the time and decided to send in a tape. Jim reworked the words and guitar parts for the song "Still" and we recorded it in a bedroom of my parent's house in one afternoon. I think we also recorded the second song on the same day, but those tapes were lost. We used a Yamaha 4-track cassette recorder (with a lot of track bouncing) to record the tracks and the cassette deck from my stereo for the mixdown. We also did the second song on the tape, but that tape was lost, along with a lot of other stuff, when my Dad passed away and my Mom moved into a smaller place and sold the house. We of course lost the challenge, as the recording was really bad and our rework didn't even come close to doing the original song justice. We did, however, receive a large beer mug that said "Energizer Rock-N-Roll Challenge" or something like that on it. The mug was also lost to time. I'll have to see if Jim still has his. Anyway, we had fun with the project, which was our goal from the beginning! The mix-down tape of this song is one of a very few that didn't get lost or destroyed. When I found it a few years back, I digitized it into an MP3. As for the promo band "Another Carnival", I don't know whatever became of them. I think they released a couple of albums in the late 80's/early 90's, but that's all I know. Anyway, I hope it doesn't hurt your ears too much!
