PrimaTek watercolours from Daniel Smith have been around for ages. A couple of years ago there was a big controversy. People had assumed (and to be fair the marketing materials certainly imply this) that the paints were made with ground up precious stones and that was it. A geologist/chemist tested them out and found only small amounts of stones and lots of extra (undeclared) pigment. A social media storm ensued. DS was pretty snippy with their replies and frankly didn't handle the situation well. These are pricey paints, and people felt duped. Anyway, that is the context - so the question I am asking today is 'are they worth it?'. Do these paints give effects we couldn't get elsewhere and is the high price tag worth paying for a paint where you are not sure what it contains. If you like the effect and fancy trying them for yourself, here is a link to Amazon: https://amzn.to/3ZgiLV2 and/or Jacksons: https://tidd.ly/3XloeYp I mention the Boku-Undo shadow black paints too: https://amzn.to/4gdDpeB These are affiliate links - you don't pay extra. I may get a small commission. I aim to share a tip or technique every week - usually on Sunday at 2pm. I might throw in a few bonus films or shorts, so it’s worth hitting the notification bell to be alerted to the next one. Every like and comment tells YouTube to show this to more people, so please jump in and share with your creative friends.
