Cash Cows: Australian universities making billions out of international students | Four Corners

Four Corners investigates how Australia's higher education system is being undermined by a growing reliance on foreign fee-paying students. International students are worth $34 billion to the Australian economy, with China, India and Nepal the top countries of origin for foreign students. But academics and students are speaking out to reveal a picture of compromised academic standards. In reporting on those issues, the program referred to Overseas Education & Career Consultants Pty Ltd (OECC) which assisted international students in enrolling at Australian universities. In response to concerns raised by OECC about the program, Four Corners wishes to clarify that the program was directed at the conduct of Australian universities in waiving English language requirements for international students. The program’s criticism was not directed at OECC. The program was not seeking to convey that OECC had waived those requirements, nor that OECC had been selling offer letters from universities.
