At the Church of St. Andrew and Pyervozvannoho All Saints, local residents laid flowers at memorials for family members that had been killed. Many called for an end to the conflict that has ravaged the area. "They died to finish the war, so that there should be peace," said local Tetiana Shoniya. "I hope that peace will come. All this horror will end," echoed another local, Iryna Abramova. After the Russians retreated at the end of March, they left a trail of devastation following their month long occupation. Bucha authorities say they recovered the bodies of more than 450 men, women, and children. Nearly all of them showed signs of violent death.
