Video Transcript: When we talk about this notion of inspiring workplaces, one of the things I think we need to consider is the impact that work, the impact that businesses, that organizations have, not just on the customers that we serve, not just on the employees that spend their days with us, but on the communities that we do business in, the impact that organizations have on the social environment around them, on the neighborhoods, on the communities, and on the environment. If we truly want to be known as an inspiring workplace, then I think we have to take those values into consideration. Well, I'm here at the Copenhagen Crown Plaza Towers, which definitely takes their impact on the environment seriously. This hotel has been ranked as the greenest, most sustainable hotel on the entire planet. The whole hotel is designed with environmental sustainability in mind. Their practices, everything they do, they consider that first and foremost as one of their core values. It's obvious that they're very proud of this. The first thing you see when you come into the hotel on the revolving door is a message about their environmental sustainability. When you go in and check in at the lobby, there's a big message right below the counter at check in talking about the walk of sustainability, which is where they talk about some of the practices, some of the things they've done here to create such an environmentally friendly hotel. They have some very innovative practices that they do here. Unlike in other hotels where you sometimes get a package of information on paper about the hotel, here you can get all that information on your TV screen or on monitors throughout the hotel so that you're not wasting paper. Another very cool thing they do is you can put a notice on your door saying that you will skip having your room cleaned and in exchange for that not only are you helping out the environment, they will reward you for doing that with a voucher of 75 Danish Krones that you can spend on the bar or restaurant here as a little perk for helping out the environment. Just over my shoulder here, they have something that is very, very cool that I've got to tell you about. One of the most innovative ideas that the hotel did here to promote their environmental sustainability program and to generate them tons of publicity around the planet, I mean around the planet, they got featured on CNN, in magazines like National Geographic, and Conde Nast, a very, very cool idea, and when they opened the hotel they had these exercise bikes just like this one rigged up to the power supply in the hotel here so that guests could actually generate electricity by pedaling on the bike for half hour or so that would go towards offsetting the electrical cost of the hotel. The guests would get rewarded with a voucher that they could then use in the restaurant or bar. They would earn some money by exercising and help out the hotel. It was like a win, win, win sandwich with a layer of fun spread all over it. What a phenomenal idea. It got them so much free publicity by doing something this innovative and outrageous. Now, they don't do the bikes for guests on a regular basis still, but they do use them still with some of their meetings with special events. This is very much a business hotel. For example, tomorrow some business guys are going to be riding on these bikes in a little competition seeing how much electricity they can generate, seeing how much power they can put out, and they can win some prizes. They can win some food, some drinks from just powering as fast as they can on the bike. Very, very cool, fun idea. Three great lessons from this hotel. Lesson one, if you want to be an inspiring workplace, then you need to consider the impact of your workplace on the community around you, on the environment. Number two, when you live a value like that, when you walk the talk of sustainability or any value, that outrageously as they have done here, then the world will stand up and notice. Number three, when you have a value like that that you are really living, be proud of it enough to tell your employees, to tell the world, because then you have the chance of impacting the entire world.
