In 1971, Under the direction of Band Director Al Lathan and Drum Major John Kusinski, the 1971 -1972 New Britain High School Marching Band debuted its fabulous Fall Halftime Show in 1971. In just its second season of brand new Marching Band uniforms purchased in 1970, the NBHS Band highlighted custom Music performances of Bingo, Close to You, Soul Town, Joy to the World, and Vehicle. This video was originally shot as 8mm film on November 7, 1971 by Bill Huber, father of Mary Lou Huber who was a senior in the NBHS Hurricane Marching Band 1971-1972. Found in old storage, Mary Lou gave permission to make a VHS copy to be shared by NBHS Band enthusiasts. In November 1971 I had recorded the audio of the NBHS Marching Band performance at Yankee Stadium directly off of the Television broadcast on WHNB-TV NBC 30 Television (now WVIT) that was shown a week later. Combining the rare audio that I had saved over 40 years ago with this rare 8mm film footage, I was able to best sync the live performance of the NBHS Marching Band at Yankee Stadium on Sunday November 7, 1971. The New York Giants beat the San Diego Chargers by a score of 35 to 17. The film begin with the NBHS Band rehearsing for the New York trip at Walnut Hill Park, the bus trip to Yankee Stadium, the Halftime performance and some bonus footage shows the NBHS Marching Band playing at the snowy Thanksgiving Day game versus Pulaski High School on November 25, 1971. Many thanks go out to Mary Lou Huber, who sadly passed away a few years ago, who without her generosity of letting us see and share these forgotten memories of the 1971 - 1972 NBHS Marching Band season.
