We went for a ride on the wonderful North Yorkshire Moors Railway yesterday. The train conductor saw that I had my uke with me and asked if I'd play ...I don't take much persuading. We had a nice little sing-along. Great fun on and summer's day. Thanks Kay for videoing! This 1960s classic was The Monkees' first single. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 on November 5, 1966. It was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, who wrote quite a few songs for the group. The Monkees came under criticism for not playing the instruments on their records, ...by people who failed to realise that The Monkees was a TV show about a fictitious pop group played by four actors who could sing ...and two of whom (Mike Nesmith & Peter Tork) could play instruments very well. The Monkees music was a team effort by great singers (The Monkees), fantastic studio session musicians (mostly 'The Wrecking Crew', who played on just about every US recording artists' records), and fantastic songwriters (Boyce & Hart, Neil Diamond, Carol King, John Stewart, Mike Nesmith, etc.) and great producers. The Beatles loved The Monkees by the way! If you'd like to learn this song or strum along with me, a song sheet containing the lyrics and chords I play can be viewed or downloaded from my songbook blog here:https://jezquaylesongbook.home.blog/w...
