Saturday 27th June 2015: The Southend RNLI Activity Base Team (which sits under the Southend RNLI Fundraising Committee) put on their very first major event - the 'Southend RNLI Sponsored Abseil' at Highbanks, Southchurch Ave, Southend. With over 60 participants taking part on the day, it truly was an amazing event! Not only did everyone have a great time on the day, but the hard work gaining sponsorship meant the participants raised an incredible £10,000 (after event expenditure) which will be utilised specifically at the Southend RNLI Station. We would like to say a very big thank you to the Activity Base Team for their efforts in putting on the event, Weston Homes for allowing us to use this wonderful building and Mile End Climbing Wall for facilitating the abseil itself. We chose Highbanks (previously known as Essex House), now owned by Weston Homes, as it was in the ideal stages of development to host the event. Overlooking the Thames Estuary, it was the perfect setting for what we wanted to achieve. Thank you to everyone who took part and all those involved in the organising of this event.
