Finance Minister Simon Birmingham says the leadership of the Nationals is “a matter for the National Party” and will not distract himself, or other Liberal ministers from their “relentless focus” on Australia’s economic recovery. This comes amid speculation Mr McCormack will be ousted by a spill or no-confidence motion against him, with some colleagues potentially gearing up to take his role. “The leadership of the National Party is a matter for the National Party,” Mr Birmingham said. “It’s not going to distract me or the prime minister or the treasurer, or any of the Liberal ministers from ensuring we continue a relentless focus on the wellbeing of Australians on implementing our economic plan. “That should be where everyone’s focus is at. It’s where mine’s at, it’s where the prime minister’s at and nothing is going to distract us”.
