In this video, you will know about 1. Unit 2. System of units 3. Conversions Units: concept such as length, area volume temperature etc. are called physical characteristics are measured by standard quantities called units. For example: meter is used to measure length. US & SI units: there are 2 systems of units used in HVAC industry one so called the inch pound US SI system (international system of unit). Ex of English system 1. Distance- feet or inches 2. Area – sq. feet or sq. inches 3. Volume – CFM (cubic feet per minute) (ft3/min) 4. Temperature – F Ex for SI system 1. Distance - meters not (mm, cm, km etc.) 2. Area – sq. m. 3. volume of – it/sec 4. temperature – C SI unit are part of a broader system of units called metric system. The SI system of units uses only one unit of measurement for each physical characteristic. Ex: SI unit of length is meters not cm or km however occasionally we may use metric units that are not standard SI unit because this is in common practice in the HVAC industry. Conversion or equivalents: the unit has fixed numerical relationship to each other called equivalents or conversion factors. Some important conversions: 1. Area: a) 1m2=10.76 Ft2 b) 1ft2= 0.093m2 c) 1ft2=144 in2 2. Length: a) 1m= 3.28’ b) 1m= 100cm=100mm c) 1m=39” d) 1’=12” e) 1”=25.4mm or 25mm( approx.) =2.54cm f) 1’=304.8mm =300 mm (approx.) 3. Tonnage: 1 TR=210KJ/min =3.5 kW =1200 BTU/hr. =400 CFM (Ft3/min) =2.4 GPM (Gallons/min) =3000 Kcal =3.781 t Note: 1 US Gallon 3.78 lt For converting Value ↑ unit ↑ (multiply) Value ↓ unit ↓ (divide) Thumb rule for tonnage (previous experiences) 1TR will cover 100ft2 (most exposed) Our Experienced trainer will explain in easy technical language which helps you to understand easily and also you will get the idea about its process. 🏢SM Techno is a leading MEP training institute in India and our moto is “Smart Men Together”.
