We thought we were wrapping up our time in San Blas with unforgettable snorkeling in crystal-clear water… but instead, we uncovered a nightmare that could have sunk our boat. As we prepared to leave paradise, we discovered serious and dangerous mistakes from the boatyard that recently worked on our boat. Our keel bolts were never properly tightened, the so-called “cosmetic” keel repair had already failed, and when the rudder was reinstalled, they left a 2 cm gap between the rudder and the hull—something no boat should ever leave the yard with. Then, just to make matters worse, our generator oil sump pump exploded, covering the engine space in oil and turning a stressful situation into a full-blown crisis. With multiple critical systems compromised, we had no choice but to head back to the boatyard at Shelter Bay Marina and hope the damage could be corrected before things got worse. This episode is a reminder that even in paradise, boat maintenance mistakes can have serious consequences—and why checking everything yourself can make the difference between an inconvenience and a catastrophe. 👇 In this episode: • Snorkeling the stunning waters of San Blas • Discovering dangerously loose keel bolts • Failed keel repair just weeks after the work • Rudder reinstalled incorrectly with a visible hull gap • Generator oil sump pump failure and massive oil mess • Racing back to the boatyard before something worse happens If you’re living aboard, cruising internationally, or planning long-term sailing, this is a video you don’t want to miss. 👉 Subscribe to follow our journey as we prepare for bigger passages ahead 👍 Like & comment if you’ve ever dealt with boatyard mistakes—or have advice for us #SailingLife #Liveaboard #BoatYardFail #SailboatProblems #KeelBolts #BoatMaintenance #SanBlasIslands #CruisingLife #SailingYouTube #BoatRepair #GeneratorFailure #endlesssummer #OffshoreSailing
