🌴 Rain, Bats & Beach Vibes — Another Day on Rodrigues Island! 🇲🇺 Another day, another island adventure! After breakfast at our villa in Caverne Provert, we jumped into our famous bright orange Suzuki S-Presso — probably the most eye-catching car on the island! 🚗🧡 Our plan for the day: a bit of sightseeing, a bit of history, and, of course, a lot of chilling. Our first stop was the Musée de Rodrigues, a small but fascinating museum tucked away near Port Mathurin. It’s not big — you can see it all in half an hour — but it’s full of interesting exhibits about the island’s history, nature, and culture. 🏛️ You’ll find stories of early settlers, shipwrecks, extinct animals like the Rodrigues solitaire (the island’s own dodo cousin!), and plenty about the island’s Creole heritage. A real gem for anyone who wants to understand this little island’s soul. Then we headed into Port Mathurin, the island’s capital and by far the busiest place on Rodrigues — though “busy” here still means calm, friendly, and colourful. We wandered around the market, visited the main church, did a quick supermarket stop (always fun to check out local snacks 😋), and soaked in that easygoing Rodrigues charm. But as island weather goes — sunshine turned to rain pretty fast. And not just a drizzle, but a proper tropical downpour! 🌧️ So we drove back to Caverne Provert, where we swapped sightseeing for swimming. The beach is literally across the road from our accommodation, so despite the rain, we had a dip in the warm sea — because, well, when in Rodrigues! By evening, the weather cleared beautifully. We took a sunset walk towards Anse aux Anglais, with the sky glowing orange and pink over the ocean. 🌅 On the way, we stopped to watch hundreds of giant fruit bats taking off from a massive tree — honestly, a breathtaking sight! These huge creatures fill the sky at dusk like something out of a nature documentary. 🦇 We ended the evening at La Plage Resto Bar, a chilled beachside spot with great food, sea breeze, and that laid-back Rodrigues vibe that makes you forget what day it is. Perfect way to end another amazing island day.
