The full 5:00pm newscast on CBS owned-and-operated WCCO-TV (or CBS News Minnesota), serving the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota TV market. Initially this was going to be a dedicated severe weather coverage video similar to WFXT, however this day just didn't perform like it was modeled to and no continuous tornado warning coverage ended up occurring in either the 5pm or 6pm newscasts. But that doesn't mean there weren't tornado warnings in WCCO's area, as there WERE in 2 separate locations; one near Rice Lake, Wisconsin and the other closer to Duluth. I bring these up because for some reason neither were given continuous coverage, only brief updates. I would hope that a CBS O&O could afford to break into programming and newscasts for all tornado warnings in their area, but I guess not. I'm assuming this was due to the fact that those areas aren't where most viewers are typically watching and would instead tune into their local station, since CBS turned their O&O's into massive region-wide areas and with WCCO specifically getting all of Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin too. If that's the reason then that makes total sense. If not though, that's 100% irresponsible of both CBS and WCCO and I almost feel like the FCC should be getting involved whenever stations don't break into programming for continuous warning coverage. Recorded live on YouTube TV.
