Soujanya’s Fight for Justice: Will Case Reopen? | Dharmasthala Mask Man | KATV India #soujanyanews #dharmasthala #dharmasthalafiles #dharmasthalamurdercase #soujanyacase #justiceforsoujanya #katvindia Main Body The tragedy dates back to October 9, 2012. Soujanya, a 17 year old student, was brutally raped and murdered in Dharmasthala. Her death sent shockwaves across the state. The initial investigation was handled by the local police, but very soon, there was a public outcry. Many people felt that the case was mishandled, and pressure mounted on the authorities to bring justice. Because of the protests and loss of faith in the local probe, the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). For the next 11 years, the case passed through multiple agencies, hearings, and trials. Finally, only one man Santosh Rao was accused and brought to court. But in June 2023, a CBI special court acquitted Santosh Rao, saying there was no evidence against him. The judgment was very clear there was no proof that could link him to the crime. For Soujanya’s family, this was a crushing blow. In 2024, a plea was filed to reopen the case. But the Karnataka High Court rejected it. The two judge bench said, There were no eyewitnesses. Nobody had seen Soujanya being forcibly taken away. Medical and forensic evidence could not be improved after so many years. And, importantly, Evidence that was not collected in the golden hour cannot be found now. This effectively meant that, legally, the case had reached a dead end. Now let’s fast forward to the present. Karnataka is witnessing another controversy the Dharmasthala mass burials case. In this context, a man named Chinnaiah has made explosive claims. He says he was working in Dharmasthala in 2012, at the time of Soujanya’s murder. In a viral YouTube interview, he claimed that he had actually seen Soujanya’s body being carried away. He further alleged that multiple bodies were buried in the same spot where Soujanya’s remains were found. He also revealed that after the incident, he was forced out of the village because people feared he might reveal the truth. These statements shocked the public and immediately brought Soujanya’s case back into discussion. Soujanya’s mother, Kusumavathi, wasted no time. She went to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) station in Belthangady and demanded that the case be reopened in light of these new claims. But her request was rejected. Reports say she was told she could only file the complaint when formally notified. Once again, a grieving mother’s demand for justice was left unheard. The SIT is now questioning Chinnaiah along with another person, Sujatha Bhatt, who also made claims regarding the Dharmasthala mass burials. But officials have clarified that, Some of their statements are unclear. Some others have been proven false. So, it is still not certain whether these claims will hold any legal weight. Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara has said that reopening Soujanya’s case would be futile. According to him, after so many years, no new medical or forensic evidence can be found. This statement has further disappointed many who still hope for justice. So, where does all of this leave us? On one side, we have Chinnaiah’s shocking claims that suggest there is more to Soujanya’s story than what was officially recorded. On the other side, we have the courts and the government, who believe reopening the case now is meaningless. And in the middle, we have a mother who refuses to give up her fight for justice. The Soujanya case is no longer just about one crime. It has become a symbol of how justice can slip away when investigations fail in the beginning. 🎥 Welcome to KATV India – India's Voice in English 🇮🇳 KATV India is a digital media platform bringing powerful Indian stories, voices, and perspectives to a global audience — all in English.
