This video is the Jan. 25, 1985 "The Spirit Returns" reunion game between 1972 Team Canada members and National Hockey League alumni All-Stars at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The game was organized on behalf of The Phil Esposito Foundation, which helped ex-NHL players in need of financial assistance. I don't know which network it was broadcast by; seems like a special production. The great Danny Gallivan is on play by play and John Davidson on color. Among the players from the iconic '72 Team Canada squad were Esposito and his brother Tony, Paul Henderson (who scored the goal that beat the Soviets), Stan Mikita, and Bobby Clarke. Among the NHL All-Stars were Gordie Howe, Henri Richard, and Dick Duff. Bruins legends Bobby Orr and Eddie Johnston coached the All Stars, and ex-Bruins Rick Smith, Bobby Lalonde, Fred Stanfield, John McKenzie, Don Marcotte, and Eddie Shack (All-Stars), and Rogie Vachon, Don Awrey, Wayne Cashman, and Bill Goldsworthy (Team Canada) suited up. Notes: What a fun watch ... The excitement in the Maple Leaf Gardens crowd when Eddie Shack got the puck was exactly the same as when he played. My math has Eddie at about age 48, and he came out with a pirouette and a jump over the red carpet - what a showman! ... Dennis Hull got a goal for Team Canada, but although Bobby Hull was on the All-Star roster I didn't see him in this footage. Copyright NHL or any other party. I don't claim the rights to, and don't profit from, this video. I just posted it for historical and educational purposes, and for those who will enjoy it as much as I did.
