So you’re moving to a new country – for retirement, for work, for school, or just for something different – and you need to move your stuff there. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just snap your fingers and everything would be moved? Unfortunately, moving your stuff abroad is more complicated than that, so this short video will teach you how the process works. Just like no airline can fly to every single destination and will use partners to help. Movers will also use partners. For example, on a move from the U.S. to Spain, the mover you hire can, in most cases, only take your stuff from your home to the nearest port. Then he’s going to need a company, known as a carrier, with a ship that can actually transport your stuff across the ocean. And then he’ll need another moving company in the destination country that can deliver your stuff to your new home, known as a local agent. Now, once the mover has done a survey of what you’re taking he’s going to need to get help from some other companies so he can determine the cost. He can take your stuff from your home to the nearest port, but then he’s going to need a company with a ship that can actually transport your stuff across the ocean, known as a carrier. And then he’ll need another moving company on the other side that can deliver your stuff to your new home, known as a local agent. You can look up what international movers are located near you. Or anywhere really… Have the mover conduct a visual survey of what you’re moving.Receive a quote listing the cost. Pay a deposit. Maybe. The movers will come to your place on the agreed day to pick up your stuff and load up the truck. The movers will take your stuff back to their warehouse to get an accurate measurement of just how much stuff you’re shipping. From this they’ll be able to give you the final price. Sometimes the price may change from the initial quote, but it shouldn’t change much and if it does the mover should be able to provide a legitimate reason why it did. Sometimes the price may change from the initial quote, but it shouldn’t change much and if it does the mover should be able to provide a legitimate reason why it did. Your stuff could sit in the warehouse for anywhere from a few days up to several weeks as the movers consolidate other shipments in the container or wait for the actual ship to arrive in port. When your stuff leaves the warehouse, it will then be transferred to the carrier. At the destination, the shipment will be transferred to a local moving company who will clear the shipment through customs and any other inspections. And then drive the distance from the port to your new home. Where they’ll deliver it to your door. Find us on...
