The new 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS introduces the T-Hybrid system, a technological leap forward that blends forced induction with electrical enhancement. The "T" in T-Hybrid stands for turbo, a nod to the system’s focus on boosting performance through both traditional and electric power. At the heart of the system is a modest 400-volt, 1.9-kilowatt-hour battery, placed under the hood where the 12-volt battery once resided, now moved behind the rear seats. While this battery is smaller compared to others, like the one in the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance, it serves a different purpose. This is not a plug-in hybrid; instead, it powers an electric motor integrated into the dual-clutch Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission—the only transmission option available for this model. The motor delivers 53 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque, working in harmony with a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine that provides the bulk of the power, totaling 532 horsepower and 449 pound-feet of torque. Unlike many modern 911 models that use twin turbos, the GTS features a single, larger turbocharger. To combat the typical turbo lag, Porsche has equipped this turbo with its own small electric motor. This motor not only helps reduce lag by spinning up the turbo quickly but also generates 11 kilowatts of electrical current from excess turbo momentum. This current can recharge the battery or directly power the hybrid motor, delivering a quick burst of extra power. Despite the added technology, the T-Hybrid system adds only about 60 pounds to the car, balanced by removing other engine components. On the track, this extra weight is barely noticeable.
