It feels like over the past two years I have not been able to find a single positive video about the socioeconomic state of Great Britain. Which is weird because I thought the UK was nice, like a fully western European nation with a booming finance sector. But now people on social media can't stop doomposting about the country. They say that the UK is in decline, that no one wants to live in the UK and that it is broken. But is this just algorithms, political polarization, bad faith actors and social media pushing the worst to the top of our feeds. Or more scarily for me as an American is the UK a sign of things to come, the death of democracy. The end point of late stage capitalism, neoliberalism, or whatever you wanna call it.
