Bystanders stop assault of woman at Federal Way Safeway; 4 teens arrested

Four teenage girls between 13 and 16 driving a stolen car were apprehended Sunday after allegedly assaulting and attempting to rob a woman at a Federal Way grocery store. Police said during the violent assault, the four suspects attempted to steal a purse off a woman's shoulder. According to the report, the suspects grabbed the victim, a woman in her 40s, by the hair and threw her to the ground, kicking her as she was down. Bystanders, including a retired police officer, were able to intervene and stop the attack, and the victim sustained minor injuries, according to police. Bystanders held one suspect at the scene at gunpoint while the others drove off in a stolen car, according to police. The property damage keeps reoccurring at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park. Kay Lakey, a park steward involved in replanting native species on the slopes above the popular beach, said green spaces are being routinely torn up as people hop curbs and drive through them. Work parties have spent hours spreading soil and mulch on the hillsides and then installing irrigation systems, but lines are being snapped, and clay pots shattered as vehicles drive over seedlings and saplings trying to take root.
