I had just returned from my Vietnam trip… but something inside me still needed alone time. I wasn’t feeling my best health-wise, and honestly, when life feels heavy, I’ve learnt that solitude can be the best medicine. So I made a decision — a small solo trip to Pondicherry. I booked a sleeper bus because there’s something comforting about sleeping through the journey and waking up in a new place. Even while travelling alone, I felt safe, calm, and sure of my decision. I told my mom I was leaving — she wasn’t very happy (very Indian mom behaviour 🤍), especially since I had just come home. But at the end of the day, choosing my happiness matters too. And so, I went. I reached early morning before check-in, so I explored the city. My only intention? The beach. It rained… then it became sunny… but nothing stopped me. I walked by the sea, ate Idiyappam for the first time, sat alone, asked a stranger to click my picture, and just existed. I visited temples and churches, felt peace without cameras, bought a small bracelet as a memory, watched a local dance practice, and smiled at how art connects people everywhere. I spoke to strangers, played games, tried food, and even bought dinner for two young girls who complimented me — a small reminder of how beautiful women supporting women feels. The next day, I wore white — something I was always insecure about. And for the first time, I felt beautiful, confident, and free. I explored cafés, tried vegetarian dishes, drank coffee, street-shopped, fought my insecurities, and finally ended my trip at Serenity Beach, sitting on the sand with a dog beside me — feeling calm, whole, and grateful. This trip wasn’t about places. It was about choosing myself. Taking my own decisions. Being independent.
