🗓 Recording date: 2024.10 Palace Royal Guard Changing Ceremony / 10;00 and 14;00 (duration: 20 minutes) The Palace Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at Gyeongbokgung Palace has been held as a traditional cultural event since 2002 to reenact the royal guard changing procedure that occurred during the Joseon Dynasty. Based on the records of Joseonwangjosillok (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty), which describes the implementation of the Palace Royal Guard System in 1469 (1st year of King Yejong’s reign), the ceremony focuses on presenting the uniforms and weapons to provide a glimpse into the appearance of soldiers during the early Joseon period. 1. The royal guards on duty are assigned to the Gwanghwamun Gate. At the first sound of the drums, the guards taking over leave for the Gate. 2. At the second sound of the drums, the royal guards going on- and off-duty make a military salute and identify themselves. 3. The royal guards are assigned to their duties under the command of their leader, who checks the state of the Gate and the conduct of the soldiers. 4. The head of the royal guards and the officers who are off duty prepare to leave.
