The Safe Drinking Water Act is a federal law that applies to the use and sale of lead pipes, fittings, solder, flux and fixtures. As of January 4, 2014, changes were made to this law to enact stricter lead limitations. Before January 4th, it was acceptable for plumbing components to contain up to 8% lead. Since January 4th, plumbing components containing greater than .25% lead are not considered "lead-free" and are no longer acceptable for use in any system that contains drinking water. However, for non-potable applications in which the fixtures and associated fittings do not come into contact with drinking water, components containing lead can still be used; for example, toilets and fire hydrants fall into this category. They can also be used in hydronic heating systems such as baseboard and radiant heat. Any products available on our site that contain lead will now be clearly marked with this symbol so customers can shop with peace of mind. When adding leaded fittings to your cart, you will also be prompted to confirm that you will using them for a non-potable application.
