This was particularly dramatic for the then 28-year-old athlete, as he had already suffered three similar injuries over the previous four years. Robby Swift said the following to fellow windsurfers: “At a few metres high, I noticed that I wouldn’t be able to land the jump, and tried to detach from the material. My rear foot remained stuck in the straps and the other leg slipped over the mast on impact. The shear forces led to multiple broken bones. (...) I can’t imagine having such bad luck again. Robby Swift flew back to his home country of the UK to receive treatment for the injury.
