Mule Train to Protect History

Firefighters are taking extraordinary steps to protect lives, property and cultural and natural resources on fires across northern California and the West right now. One of those efforts on the Monument Fire took place last week when firefighters, using a mule pack train, went into the Trinity Alps Wilderness to protect some historic cabins and outbuildings. We know people are still out of their homes and many are still threatened by new or existing fires. As the Alaska Incident Management Team transfers responsibility for the Monument Fire to California Incident Management Team 5, the Alaskans wanted to share a bright spot from their time here. On behalf of all the firefighters working out in the heat and the smoke, they also want to thank everyone in the surrounding communities for their cooperation and their support.
