Somehow, this is my FOURTH capture of a 747 go around! Tower, much to my surprise, decided to try and get a 767 departure off between them. At least in my experience, the controllers here (ya'll are awesome btw) are fairly reserved when it comes to fitting in departures between arrivals. They generally don’t to try and cram them like in this example, much less with the biggest plane that comes here regularly. Almost couldn't believe it, but, I suppose I've seen far less believable things! I’ve included timestamps with a comprehensive the breakdown of events as they unfolded. 00:03 - UPS5568 is instructed to slow to final approach speed to keep the spacing up as much as possible. DL170 is the other aircraft in frame 00:28 - DL2119 is told to line up and wait and be ready so the takeoff clearance can be given asap 01:07 - DL170(off camera) rolls long and exits via A8, the third to last turn off option for 30L. Worth noting that it was going straight into the deice pad to REALLY clear the runway instead of going right onto Alpha, otherwise the wingspans would conflict. 01:14 - DL2119 is told to exit right off the runway at the next available exit. At this point, the gap has become too tight for a takeoff ahead of the 747. 01:23 - DL2119 takes a full 5 seconds to respond, and seems to get confused by DL170's "into the deice pad" call and reads back that. 01:27 - Tower knows DL2119 isn't going to movie in time, and orders the go around Flight #: UPS5568 Route: SDF to MSP Runway: 30L Aircraft type: Boeing 747-8F Registration #: N618UP Date of filming: 07-05-2025 Location: Terminal 1 Parking Ramp Level 8 RED Camera: Sony AX53 Microphone: Sony ECM-B10 © Twin Cities Aviator 2025
