Here is the end result of my sons efforts to create a tornado vortex. He used an empty copy paper box, top included, that he cut vents in on all long 4 sides. He then cut a hole in the top of one if the short sides just round enough that a portable battery operated fan could lay in, blowing air upward. He then cut a hold in the bottom of the other short side wide enough to fit a plastic dish with ice. Finally, he stretched and stapled Saran Wrap across the "window" he cut in the box lid. What he didnt know was that dry ice evaportates in 24 hrs. So even though his tests were successful, it wasn't until we were packed and ready for the Science Fair the next evening that we realized...... there was no ice! Naturally all stores were closed but we wound up purchasing a small humidifier in order to create a "fog" effect. Wasn't as good and he was crushed and unhappy. So, like any good parent, I bought him another block of ice the next morning so he could recreate his project and record it for his class and friends to see! This is what is was supposed to look like for the fair. Pretty cool stuff! Congrats to my boy for doing a great job regarding a subject he loves.
