Description: Me and my friend took on one of the toughest and most historic hikes at Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve! We completed the full Nortonville Trail, Black Diamond Trail, and Prospect Tunnel Loop — a hard but rewarding 4.7-rated route packed with history and insane views. This loop takes you past Jim’s Place, the Air Shaft, and through the legendary Prospect Tunnel — all explorable and some of the most interesting spots in the preserve. Along the way, we climbed some serious hills with amazing views of Antioch, Mount Diablo, and the Sacramento River & San Joaquin River. We also passed through the sites of three old mining towns — now mostly gone except for a historic cemetery. This hike is challenging but totally worth it if you’re into adventure, history, and epic Bay Area views. ⚠️ Reminder: Some sections pass near private property — always stay on marked preserve trails (Manhattan Canyon Trail helps route you safely around those areas). If you enjoy hiking, exploring abandoned places, and pushing through tough climbs, this one’s for you.
