Awameh, also known as luqaimat, are delightful deep-fried sweet dumplings with origins in the Middle East. These golden, bite-sized treats are a cherished tradition during festive occasions, celebrations, and especially during Ramadan. 🍡✨😍😋 To prepare the syrup for these sweet dumplings, gather the following ingredients: Syrup: 3 cups sugar 2 cups water 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon orange blossom water For the dough, you'll need a well-balanced mixture of dry and liquid ingredients: Dry Ingredients Mixture: 2 cups sifted flour 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 tablespoon vanilla 2 tablespoons powdered milk Liquid Ingredients Mixture: 1 1/2 cups warm water 1 tablespoon instant yeast 1 tablespoon sugar 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Instructions: Prepare the Syrup: In a saucepan, combine sugar and water, then add lemon juice. Bring to a gentle boil for 5 minutes over low heat. Stir in the orange blossom water, remove from heat, and let the syrup cool completely. Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a glass bowl, sift the flour and incorporate the remaining dry ingredients (cornstarch, baking powder, vanilla, powdered milk). Prepare the Liquid Ingredients: In another bowl, combine warm water, instant yeast, sugar, and vegetable oil. Cover and let the yeast activate for 10 minutes. Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth dough forms. Let the Dough Rise: Cover the dough and let it rest for an hour until it rises. Shape and Fry: Transfer the dough to a piping bag for easy shaping. In a preheated deep pan with oil, shape the dough into small balls using scissors or a special tool. Fry until halfway done, then remove and let them cool. Second Fry: Return the partially fried balls to the oil over medium heat until they turn golden brown. Remove from oil and let them cool completely. Soak in Syrup: Once cooled, immerse the fried dumplings in the cold syrup, allowing them to soak for about 15 minutes until fully absorbed. Serve: After soaking, serve the Awameh, and relish the delightful taste of these sweet dumplings that are a true representation of Middle Eastern cuisine. Enjoy your meal! 🍬🌙 #Awameh #food #recipe #sweets #MiddleEast #MediterraneanFood #homemade #dessert
