John Campbell was a jazz pianist who was active in the 1970s and 1980s. Campbell and his quartet performed at the 2nd annual Chicago Jazz Festival in 1980, with Kelly Sill on bass, Ed Petersen on tenor sax, and Joel Spencer on drums. The performance was introduced by Billy Taylor, a renowned jazz pianist and broadcaster who hosted NPR's "Jazz Alive" series. It's possible that the performance was recorded and broadcast as part of the "Jazz Alive" series, which was known for showcasing some of the most important musicians and performances in jazz history. Campbell later composed and orchestrated music for the Radio Theatre series Chronicles of Narnia, which is a notable departure from his earlier work as a jazz pianist.
