Army Veteran to BJJ Black Belt: Sergio Machado’s Journey of Resilience Sunday, December 14th Sergio Machado is a U.S. Army veteran, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, and full-time police officer whose life is defined by service, resilience, and grit. After ten years in the Army and recovering from a serious back injury following his third deployment to Iraq, he found a new purpose through martial arts. Sergio went on to earn his black belt under Ricardo “Pancho” Feliciano and built a thriving BJJ academy where he inspired students of all ages. A force on the competition mats, he’s earned podium finishes and double-gold performances at IBJJF, Jiu-Jitsu World League, SubCon, and Fight To Win. He’s also pushed his limits beyond the mats, completing marathons and Ironman triathlons. Today, Sergio continues to lead by example as a dedicated officer, husband, and father—living out the same discipline, courage, and excellence he teaches.
