Δεν ξεχνάμε τον αέρα που δίνουμε, ανάμεσα σε πόρτα και κασωμα, και το κόλλημα μέσα και έξω στον μεντεσέ σας ευχαριστώ In this video I share a few information about different kinds of hinges and I fix the hinges on a metal gate, that were destroyed by the elements. Hinges come in many sizes and shapes, usualy they are the split type with an upper and a lower part, one of which attaches on the frame and the other on the door or gate. There are left and right side hinges, meaning that you can only attach them on a door in a specific orientation. If you attach a "left" opening hinge on a door that requires a "right" opening hinge, the door will not rest on the hinge. And it is important to "rest" the door on the hinge, otherwise the door will fall down. See, the hinge has two parts, the "pin" part and the receiving part. It doesn't matter which part you attach to the frame and which to the door, as long as the door is hanging on the hinge. The part that goes to the door, must be above the part that attaches to the frame. Not underneath. That's actually a no brainer, but trust me, I 've fallen to the trap myself. Now hinges are either metal or bronze and they are either the "split" type, like the ones I show in the video, or the universal type, which can not be split, but they can be fitted directly on the door and frame. The universal type hinges don't allow removing of the door. There is also the screw in type hinges, which are usualy found in wooden interior doors, with their only difference being the attachment method. They simply screw in place. One part on the door, the other part on the frame. In the second part of the video I show you how to fix a broken hinge on a metal gate, using the welding machine. Of course the hinge can be attached with screws, in which case they are removable, but they can also be attached permanently by welding them in place. I chose the latter. If the metal is thin, like in my case which was just 1mm thick, the welding must be done with short spot welds, and not with one continous thread. The heat from the weld is enough to burn through the metal. That's why I suggest using at least 1.5mm thick hollow beams, if you intend to make exterior gates like this one. The thicker metal allows better welding of parts without the risk of burning through. Remember to allways leave a small gap between the frame and door, so that the door will be able to close fully, and allways wear protective equipement for the welding and grinding of the parts.
