Amazon Prime has Pulled the Plug on SVOD for Independent Films Well, we knew it was coming. About a year ago they stopped accepting documentary and short films and have been slashing payouts like crazy for over two years. It was just a matter of time before they stopped taking direct submissions for 'Free with Prime.' Just today, they started sending out the following email: Thank you for using Prime Video Direct. We are reaching out to let you know that we are changing the way we license content through Prime Video Direct starting November 1, 2021. As you know, Prime Video Direct helps rights holders, from independent filmmakers to major studios, reach Amazon’s global audiences via Buy/Rent access to Prime Video. Starting November 1, 2021, we will not be accepting unsolicited licensing submissions for content with the “Included with Prime” (SVOD) offer type. Going forward, all content for SVOD will be proactively solicited and licensed at the sole discretion of Prime Video Direct. Content may still be submitted for TVOD consideration in eligible marketplaces as long as it meets our content policy guidelines. If you have availability lists to share, you can indicate the availability of your title(s) in your Prime Video Direct Dashboard. If we license your title, the status will change from “submitted” to “published.” Please note that indicating a title’s SVOD availability does not guarantee or imply your title will be selected for licensing. Please refer to the “Your Videos” page for all title status updates. There will be no immediate impact to your titles that are currently licensed for SVOD. However, please note that Prime Video is a curated service, and we are constantly refreshing our content offering and selection for customers. Content licensed with a "Included with Prime" offer type is not licensed indefinitely and may be removed at any time at the sole discretion of Prime Video Direct.
