Let's start the year with yet another playthrough. Many have recommended this in the previous romhack, so let's get started. First impression, not that great. Too much information. Just take the introduction as an example, I am reading at a decent pace (not slowly waiting for each letter to appear), and it still took me 7 minutes to get to the actual gameplay, and I had already forgotten half of it because how irrelevant some of the information are. I find it amusing that FE8 still had a better way of introducing the setting compared to most romhacks, especially the way it uses the map to introduce each kingdom, makes it easier to follow. The word formatting too, it sometimes has only 3 words for a single line, sometimes it fills the whole text box, and other times, just one word. With the large amount of information to take in, this makes reading extremely tedious. The worst part is the auto-skipping (when Noir talked to the red-haired girl in the cutscene), I don't even have the chance to read it (this happens a lot in TLP too), but luckily this skipping only happened once. Then, the gameplay. I didn't expect that I have to start discarding stuff just because I used a unit who started off with 4 items to visit a village that gives 2 items. Then the second part I have to discard another thing because later on the game event which gives another item to a unit who just defeated the boss with a droppable item. Now for the second part, even more characters appear, with even more skills on them, and I can't even be bothered to check everything because it is just too tedious, especially when this is only the first chapter. While the concept for the gameplay objective to split into 2 parts is a good idea, but with so much information, it is just a turnoff for me, and I just yolo-ed the chapter hoping the NPCs will do their job. If I actually checked every single NPC's data, this will feel more like doing a history research rather than playing a game. Unrelated note, it's kinda funny how the ballista still worked right AFTER it broke. Of course, first impression isn't everything, most of the romhacks I played ended differently from the way it started. Well, since most of you guys recommended this, I sure hope it gets better later on.
