I know it sounds like the most roundabout way to do it, but trust me: My new ultimates mechanic is designed to take your DnD game and give your players mechanically motivated reasons for telling the story. I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve made here, and I think that I’ve added some new elements to the game with this little expansion. And all of this was inspired by the awesome PREQUEL, which is on kickstarter right now! PREQUEL is a oneshot game for a GM and 2-4 players, where you engage in a tactical storytelling game of heroic sacrifice. In PREQUEL you play as doomed heroes fighting against their final adversary. Over the course of the game you play out a tactical combat while building the Heroes’ quest using the world, events, and bonds that led the heroes to this point.
