Crouse Hospital Auxiliary's 23rd Annual Lights of Love Ceremony

For the 23rd holiday season, the clock tower atop Crouse Hospital is illuminated by 3,000 white bulbs, each purchased by a donor in honor or in memory of someone special. Proceeds from the Crouse Hospital Auxiliary's 2010 Lights of Love campaign will be used to support the life-saving work of the hospital's R.G. Walter Baker Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which cares for our region's tiniest patients. Each year, the Baker Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Crouse Hospital cares for between 800 and 1,000 premature and critically-ill infants from 15 counties in central and northern New York. With this year's campaign proceeds, the NICU will acquire a handheld ultrasound machine. The size of a cell phone, this state-of-the-art device will be used for noninvasive scans of babies for diagnostic and treatment purposes. Lightweight, portable yet powerful, this device makes certain procedures easier to perform and less stressful for both the neonate and the practitioner. On Monday, Nov. 29, the lights were lit by Alliance Bank President Jack Webb, his wife Linda and Alliance Bank Executive Assistant Judy Shultz, assisted by three children who spent their first days and weeks in the Crouse NICU: Maeve Dadey and twins Molly and Brendan Sullivan. Thomas Curran, MD, of Neonatal Associates of CNY, gave remarks about how the new equipment will be put to good use in the NICU.
