In this part, Ian Baker, talks about the legend of the Lukhang temple in relation to the pre-buddhist deities of nature and the building of the Potala Palace in Lhasa. This episode features a highly detailed watercolour map of the Potala Palace c. 1860 (with permission of the British Library Board / G70082-001), a 17th century sculpture of the sage Patanjali in Bronze (Shown with permission from the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford - EA2005.11), an early stone Nāga Shrine from India, dated 1000 B.C. – 1500 A.D. (Shown with permission of the Wellcome Collection/Science Museum Group), an 18th century sculpture of Garuda in gilded and red lacquered wood (shown courtesy of the Trustees of the British Museum), contemporary videos (with permission of Ian Baker and David Bickerstaff) as well as details of the murals.
