Dr. Tomycz is a neurosurgeon (double board certified), with a specialty in pediatric neurosurgery and surgery for seizures that are not controlled by meds (approximately 1/3 of epilepsy cases are classified as drug resistant). About once a month, we bring lunch to a pediatric office in the tri-state area, and Dr. Tomycz gives a short talk about the types of conditions he treats and ways to get proper diagnosis and care for these patients in a timely manner. With regards to epilepsy, for example, the longer untreated seizures continue, the more damage the brain and body endure. Many times this damage is irreversible. One of the main things parents tell us, is that they wish they had known surgery was an option and sent for surgical evaluation sooner. We recognize the crucial role pediatricians play as the first point of contact for many families facing neurological challenges, and we believe that a collaborative approach can significantly impact the lives of children with epilepsy.
