The verdict was announced on March 16 by Justice A.K.M. Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayetur Rahman.Abrar's body was found on October 6, 2019, at BUET’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall. His father filed a case against 19 individuals, and following an investigation, charges were filed against 25 BUET students. In 2021, the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 sentenced 20 to death and 5 to life imprisonment. The death references reached the High Court in 2022, and the final hearing was concluded on February 24 before the judgment was delivered. The convicts sentenced to death include members of the BUET unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League.
