24 Hours in East London’s Muslim Area | Apostate Prophet

The London borough Tower Hamlets is one of the parts of London which have the highest percentage of first, second and third-generation immigrants. Out of the 330 000 people living there, only around 20% are native Brits. Around 35% of the population is from Bangladesh and the area is also home to large Somali, Pakistani, Afghan, Turkish and Arab communities. The 2011 census showed Tower Hamlets to have the highest proportion of Muslims of any English local authority and as the only location in the UK where Muslims outnumbered Christians. The borough has 50 mosques and many madrasahs, including the East London Mosque, Britain's largest. Visegrad24 founder Stefan Tompson and Ridvan Aydemir, better known online as Apostate Prophet, visited the area to see for themselves how the UK's immigration policies have created a neighborhood in the capital city where British culture is practically missing. Ridvan is a YouTuber who used to be a devout Sunni Muslim. Born in Germany to a Turkish family, he moved to Turkey as a teenager where he went to high school and served his mandatory military service. During his time in Turkey, he became interested in Islam and decided to practice it devoutly. Although raised in a conservative Muslim environment, his study of Islam led him to doubt the religion, and eventually, he left it altogether. This severely destabilized his relationship with his family, his friends, and the Turkish government. Ridvan eventually immigrated to the United States, to live freely in the West.
