UPDATE: I did finally get a download of their software to work on my computer. I found a version here: https://www.celestron.com/products/de... which strangely is not the same version they had on their software page, where I had originally looked for support software. That's fun. This is a continuation of the review I started here • Review of Celestron Digital Microscope Pro... of the Celestron Digital Microscope Pro. Apologies for my shakiness, but now you'll see what the novice experience is like with this microscope! Again, I'm using a third party software called Plugable, not the software provided by Celestron as it would not work on my computer. Still, I got some decent photos and video (and you can use this as a camera in Zoom and QuickTime). This worked well enough for insects that your students will likely focus on - those that are big enough to pin and not point-mount. Insects that are within 1-2 centimeters will be viewable with the microscope on the stand. Anything larger (like the 2.5cm robber fly I pictured at the end), will require you to take the microscope out of the mount and deal with a shaky hand. Alternatively, keep the microscope on the mount and take multiple photos, and then stitch them together in your photo editing software of choice. Dark, shiny insects are still hard to photograph, as they would be with a regular stereomicroscope. As the light is coming from above, it might be hard to build a diffuser, but not impossible.
