Using extensive interviews from print articles, podcasts, and behind-the-scenes footage, this video encapsulates the first half of Catherine O'Hara's incredible career in film and television. Starting with her groundbreaking improv work as part of The Second City theater in Toronto and SCTV, we cover her early struggles auditioning, her early supporting roles in Martin Scorsese's After Hours and Mike Nichols' Heartburn, and her breakout performances in the '80s and '90s in Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Home Alone 2, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. This was originally planned as one all-encompassing video, but as I was researching her life, rewatching her films and discovering some other ones for the first time, I just fell in love with her story and wanted to include as much as possible. Stay tuned for Part 2, which will cover her experiences working with Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration), her extensive voiceover work (Where the Wild Things Are, Over the Hedge, Frankenweenie), the brilliant development of her character, Moira Rose on Schitt's Creek, and additional Emmy-nominated performances in Temple Grandin, The Last of Us, and The Studio. 0:00 - Everyone's Mom 4:05 - Improv Roots at The Second City 5:44 - SCTV 8:23 - Struggles Auditioning 9:19 - After Hours 11:54 - Heartburn 12:53 - Beetlejuice 14:11 - Home Alone 16:00 - Skyrocketing to Fame 18:17 - The Nightmare Before Christmas 19:34 - Continued in Part 2
