This hymn "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" has expressed the essence of Christianity for over 200 years and is the perfect tune for this #EasterSunday #SlowAirSunday. Written in 1775, the timeless lyrics by Samuel Medley were first printed in a leaflet or in a magazine and have been set to several different melodies, but the original melody was set to the "Duke Street" hymn. The melody written by Lewis D. Edwards in 1901 is the Hymn you are hearing today on the Bagpipes arranged by Dark Isle Piper. I have passed this specific Grove of Olive Trees often. Every time I pass this grove of trees I think about Christ and how he pleaded with God in the Garden of Gethsemane for each of us. The love and sacrifice that Christ made for all of us brings me so much peace and joy. I didn't know that this would be the tune that I would play here, in this grove of trees, until I walked into them and felt the feelings that I had felt again being here.... the love that Christ had, and the joy in knowing that HE LIVES. After a few practice runs of playing this tune for the first time this is what came through my fingers. I hope this brings you the joy that I felt in that moment. Hold fast to Hope, Peace and joy and know that you will be watched over from the heavens. HE LIVES! Hope you are all having a wonderful EASTER SUNDAY! About Samuel Medley: After a false start as an apprentice, Medley joined the British Royal Navy, becoming a midshipman in 1755. He was wounded in battle off Port Lagos in 1759; during his recuperation, he heard a sermon by Isaac Watts that led to his conversion. He then left the Royal Navy and studied for the ministry under Dr. Gifford in London. In 1767, he became pastor at the Baptist church in Watford, Herefordshire. In 1772, he began his ministry at Byron Street in Liverpool. Original Lyrics: 1 I know that my Redeemer lives; what comfort this sweet sentence gives! He lives, He lives, who once was dead; He lives, my everliving Head. 2 He lives triumphant from the grave, He lives eternally to save, He lives all-glorious in the sky, He lives exalted there on high. 3 He lives to bless me with His love, He lives to plead for me above, He lives my hungry soul to feed, He lives to help in time of need. 4 He lives to grant me rich supply, He lives to guide me with His eye, He lives to comfort me when faint, He live to hear my soul's complaint. 5 He lives to silence all my fears, He lives to wipe away my tears, He lives to calm my troubled heart, He lives all blessings to impart. 6 He lives, my kind, wise, heav'nly friend, He lives and loves me to the end; He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King. 7 He lives and grants me daily breath; He lives and I shall conquer death; He lives my mansion to prepare; He lives to bring me safely there. 8 He lives, all glory to His name! He lives, my Jesus, still the same. Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives, "I know that my Redeemer lives!" Filmed in Oak Glen Arranged by Dark Isle Piper www.darkislepiper.com
