This song is dedicated to the brave Iranian people who, after 47 years of struggle, are finally standing on the brink of freedom and victory. This is an anthem for the heroes of Azadi Square and every street across the nation where the spirit of honor flows through our veins. Symbolism & Cultural Context To fully understand the message of "The Glory of Our Victory," it helps to know the deep roots of the Persian imagery used in the lyrics: The Leathered Apron (Kaveh the Blacksmith): The line "we raised our leathered apron" refers to Kaveh Ahangar, a legendary figure from the Shahnameh (The Book of Kings). Kaveh led a popular uprising against a cruel tyrant by raising his blacksmith's leather apron as a banner of freedom. It is the ultimate symbol of a common person rising against oppression. Narges (The Intoxicated Narcissus): While Narges is a beautiful name, in Persian poetry, "Narges-e Mast" often refers to the "intoxicated" or "dreamy" eye of a beloved. Here, it symbolizes the beauty, vision, and soul of the Iranian women leading this movement. The Simurgh (سیمرغ): Mentioned in the bridge, the Simurgh is a benevolent, mythical flying creature. It represents wisdom, healing, and—most importantly—the power of unity. Legend tells that thirty birds (Si-murgh) realized they were all part of one great spirit. Student Park (Park-e Daneshjoo): A historic gathering point in Tehran, symbolizing the intellectual and youthful heart of the resistance. Shamsheer (شمشیر): The traditional Persian scimitar or sword, representing the sharp edge of truth and the strength of the roaring lions. LYRICS: We stood together in Azadi square You looked into my eyes and unveiled your hair I said you made me feel free, You said and yet we’re hostages You’re my نرگسِ مست (my intoxicated narcissus) you taught me what courage is On that day we rose and vowed, will hold our head proud زن، زندگی، آزادی (Woman, Life, Freedom), we’ll chant with a crowd Our rivers of soul are fueled with honor in our veins It’s better to die free than to live in chains رگ غیرت اگر بزند در رگها (If the spirit of honor flows through our veins) مرگ با عزت، به از عمرِ با ذلتها (An honorable death is better than a life of humiliation) بیدار شد و خروشید، شیر دلیر (The brave lion awakened and roared) We’re all roaring lions, armed with Shamsheer (swords) With epic fury in our eyes Fate is sealed - the sun will rise. طلوع نو — a new hope فردا روشن خواهد شد (Tomorrow will be bright) When all seems lost, we raised our leathered apron Using voice and truth as our only weapon Our prayers were heeded, freedom is near A nation reborn after Forty-seven years Now I’m placing Narges in پارک دانشجو (Student Park) In memory of our fallen, in memory of you I wish you were here to see The glory of our victory — شکوهِ پیروزی از مرگ گذشتیم با بالِ آهنین (We passed through death with iron wings) امروز ما سیمرغیم، نه در کمین (Today we are the Simurgh, no longer in ambush) بیدار شد و خروشید، شیر دلیر (The brave lion awakened and roared) We’re all roaring lions, armed with Shamsheer With epic fury in our eyes Fate is sealed - the sun will rise. طلوع نو — a new hope فردا روشن خواهد شد (Tomorrow will be bright) طلوع نو — a new hope فردا روشن خواهد شد (Tomorrow will be bright) I wish you were here to see The glory of our victory — شکوهِ پیروزی #womanlifefreedom #zanzendegiazadi #TheGloryOfOurVictory #persianmusic #iranrevolution #ShokohePirozi #simurgh #paulartin
