Shoulder Problems | On Call with the Prairie Doc | October 5, 2017

Dr. Rick Holm, The Prairie Doc, is joined by Dr. Peter Looby and Dr. Keith Baumgartner to discuss the indications for shoulder surgery and how shoulder surgery has evolved; how to prevent shoulder injury, frozen shoulder, and DJD dysfunction: as well as methods, effectiveness, and value of non-surgical and surgical options of therapy for shoulder problems. Dr. Looby completed his undergraduate at Stanford University and graduated medical school at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO. While completing his fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, he was the team orthopedic surgeon for the New England Patriots football team, the Boston Bruins hockey team, the New England Revolution soccer team, and the Harvard University sports teams. Dr. Looby is the team surgeon for the Sioux Falls Storm indoor football team, the Sioux Falls Stampede hockey and Canaries baseball teams, and is the former team surgeon for SDSU athletics. Dr. Baumgartner earned his undergraduate and medical degree at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Baumgarten has been presented with the Charles S. Neer Award in 2011 and 2013 for the best shoulder research performed that year, and the O’Donoghue Award in 2014 for his research on ACL injuries. He strives to improve orthopedic knowledge and care by performing medical research, and presenting it at national meetings. He has published many journal articles and book chapters and has written a book on arthroscopic surgery. He is an elected member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He is the first and only orthopaedic surgeon in South Dakota to be elected to this organization.
