Also, this parade dives deep into political commentary and this parade is an expression of the Krewe du Vieux's viewpoint, as such lets please respect their freedom of speech and expression! So with all of the pretense out of the way, we are here to celebrate another awesome Mardi Gras parade here in our city of New Orleans! This parade is the Krewe du Vieux and it is one of the Raunchiest and most in your face parades at Mardi Gras. The passion that is shown by this marching Krewe is one of a kind. It’s like what Forest Gump would say every year with this parade, as this parade is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get! ABOUT KREWE DU VIEUX: Founded in 1987 and taking its name from the Vieux Carré (old square), the official name for the French Quarter, the Krewe du Vieux is one of the earliest parades of the New Orleans Carnival calendar. The Krewe du Vieux is a non-profit organization dedicated to the historical and traditional concept of a Mardi Gras parade as a venue for individual creative expression and satirical comment. It is unique among all Mardi Gras parades in the city because it alone carries on the old traditions of Carnival celebrations, by using decorated mule-drawn floats with satirical themes, accompanied by costumed revelers dancing in the streets to the sounds of jazzy street musicians. We believe in exposing the world to the true nature of Mardi Gras—and in exposing ourselves to the world. WELCOME TO KREWE DU VIEUX The Krewe du Vieux’s seventeen sub krewes will each present their own interpretations of the theme. Sub krewes include the Krewe of C.R.U.D.E., Krewe of Space Age Love, Krewe of Underwear, Seeds of Decline, Krewe of Mama Roux, Krewe of L.E.W.D., Krewe of Drips and Dis- charges, Krewe of K.A.O.S., Knights of Mondu, T.O.K.I.N., Krewe Rue Bourbon, Krewe de C.R.A.P.S., Mystic Krewe of Spermes, Mystic Krewe of Comatose, Mystic Krewe of Inane, Krewe du Mishigas and Krewe of SPANk. Also marching will be many of the city’s top brass bands. Showcasing the local brass band talent is one of many Krewe du Vieux traditions not eligible for coverage under the health care reform bill. Krewe du Vieux is an existential culmination of vision and spirituality, not easily described. Our parade brings us together from our everyday lives for one glorious night of love, primitive desires and ecstasy. We bond to the people around us as we playfully exchange smiles, hugs, and the joi de vivre that New Orleans brings to the world.
