Once a cattle ranch, the land was purchased by The Walt Disney Company in the 1990s and donated to The Nature Conservancy to help offset resort expansion and protect the headwaters of the Everglades. Today, it’s been transformed into a thriving ecosystem of wetlands, prairies, and pine forests. The Disney Wilderness Preserve is also part of the Everglades Trail, a network of 20 national and state parks, preserves, and wildlife refuges stretching from Central Florida all the way down to Florida Bay. Hiking here means you’re stepping into one of the northern gateways to this unique ecosystem — a place where water flows south, wildlife thrives, and Florida’s natural beauty comes alive.
