F40PH Locomotive 50th Anniversary: 1976 - 2026

The F40PH locomotive is one of the most widely recognized diesels in passenger railroading history. Designed for Amtrak to replace older locomotives that were less reliable, the F40 has gone on to pull passenger trains all over North America for about a dozen different railroads. 2026 marks 50 years since the first F40PH was completed by EMD and to recognize half a century of operation, I have put together this special 40 minute long tribute to these locomotives. We'll see F40s in action for most of the railroads they have operated for in both the US and Canada. Multiple different model variants of the F40 have been produced by three different companies during the last half century, and we will see all the major versions in action in commuter, intercity, long distance, and tourist service.
