Testing the tonal and output differences of two of my favorite humbuckers, the DiMarzio Super Distortion (DP100) and the DiMarzio X2N (DP102) Both on 60's Gibson Melody Makers, with slim mahogany bodies Same distance to the strings Same wraparound bridge Same electronics: 500k volume pot, 3-way mini switch, output jack. Same amp-SIM (BIAS AMP 2), set to a typical Marshall JCM800 kinda tone Same amp-sound throughout; the progressively cleaner tone is just the series-parallel-split difference Volume on 10 on all samples Only real difference: the Super D splits to the north coil, and the X2N to the south coil Some notes: I usually set the X2N a bit further from the strings, it sounds better that way, but it's pretty good up close too. To me it has a better parallel sound, with a bigger difference to the series tone. I like the series tone on both. Even with the jump in output, the X2N it's still quieter in noise and hum than most humbuckers. The Super Distortion sounds a bit brighter and drier, though, with a tighter bass and less mud in the low end. Both are good for classic rock, punk and metal. Split, the Super D. sounds better because it's wired to split to the north coil; the south coil on the X2N sounds scratchy. #DiMarzio #X2N #SuperDistortion #dimarziopickups #gibsonmelodymaker
